ON TEXTURE (2019-2022)

Silence does not exist, and any attempt to create silence amplifies the strained noises beneath the surface. In the space between sounds - in this attempt at silence - there lies a residue of past events and sketches of all things possible. Every idea exists at once in the hopes of rising to the surface and be realized.

The on texture series is an ongoing experiment with ink and acrylic layers, focusing on negative space. Each work features layers of detailed ink drawings covered in acrylic and scraped off to reveal small portions of the underlying structures. Each piece consists of multiple layers of this process, sometimes showing the ink drawing in its entirety and sometimes the ink drawing through layers of acrylic.

These works place the empty space on the same level of importance as the underlying structures themselves. The textures and layers that arise as the silence and structures meld, showing that there is always something to see as much as we may try to create silence.
